Yaron Bob, an Israeli artist whose community has been repeatedly attacked with Kassam rockets fired from Gaza by Palestinian terrorists, turns the rockets of hate into metal art called “Rockets into Roses.”
Bob’s work was inspired by his own close calls with rocket attacks. According to his website, “I take the Kassam, the instrument of death and I change it, I transfer it into something of beauty.” After the rockets are checked by a bomb squad, the police give Bob the metal to create the roses which he “plants” in a base shaped as a map of Israel, “so that the rose literally ‘grows’ from the place of destruction – where most of the rockets have landed.”
Until very recently, HAMAS has controlled the government in Gaza and has been primarily responsible for the rocket attacks. Founded in 1987, HAMAS, an acronym for the Islamic Resistance Movement, is a U.S. designated terrorist group and the self-described Palestinian arm of the Muslim Brotherhood. Its charter makes it clear that Jews are the enemies of Allah and that the HAMAS mission is to destroy Israel and kill Jewish people.
Quoting Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood founder, the HAMAS charter states:
Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it.
And from the Quran:
The Prophet, Allah bless him and grant him salvation, has said: ‘The Day of Judgement will not come about until Moslems fight the Jews (killing the Jews), when the Jew will hide behind stones and trees. The stones and trees will say O Moslems, O Abdulla, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him.’
After Israel withdrew from the Gaza Strip in 2005, trying to stimulate a peace process, it is estimated that over 18,000 rockets and mortars were fired from Gaza into Israel.
As far back as 1994, Nihad Awad, the nation director of U.S. based CAIR (Council on American Islamic Relations), has publicly  and unequivocally stated his support for the HAMAS movement.
In 2009, CAIR challenged its unindicted co-conspirator status in the Holy Land Foundation terrorism financing prosecution stemming from funneling money to HAMAS. In denying CAIR’s request, the federal judge ruled that there was “ample evidence” tying CAIR to HAMAS.
The success of Israel’s Iron Dome system in protecting innocent Israeli civilians inspired Yaron Bob’s next pursuit called the Iron Dome Collection because as he says, “[w]hy not create art from the remains of the material used to protect Israelis?”
Of the 4,500 rockets fired into Israel in 2014, during “the 50 days of conflict with HAMAS” Israel’s “Iron Dome” missile defense systems “intercepted 735 projectiles that it determined were life threatening, achieving an intercept success rate of 90 percent. Only 70 rockets fired at Israel from Gaza failed to be intercepted.”
A portion of the proceeds from Bob’s rocket art is used to build above-ground, portable bomb shelters to help protect people against the rockets of hate.
